Nawied Jabarkhyl is a Dubai-based Business Correspondent for Thomson Reuters TV. Born and raised in London to Afghan parents, Nawied has spent almost a decade in the Middle East, and has reported on major events including the war in Syria, the London 2012 Olympics and the Formula One Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Having previously worked at BBC London Radio, Gulf News and CNN International, Nawied has a range of journalistic experience spanning across three continents, and a sound knowledge of the issues that matter to people in the Middle East and in the West. His current role focuses on business and economics – with a particular emphasis on the Middle East’s growing relationship with China and the Far East. An award-winning writer, commentator and presenter, Nawied also MC’s and hosts events across the UAE. He hosted a series of climate change conferences in Dubai, backed by the French Government, in the run up to the historic COP-21 global meeting in Paris in December 2015 – which led to the world’s largest ever agreement to tackle climate change. An avid sports fan, Nawied is fluent in Dari (Farsi) and Pashto, and maintains strong ties to Afghanistan, where he’s in the process of setting up the Nawied Jabarkhyl Foundation – to offer scholarships to train promising, young, Afghan journalists.
